Thank you for your interest in becoming a vendor for the JCAL Riddim & Jazz Festival! The festival will be Friday, July 26 at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, and Saturday to Sunday, July 27 to 28, in Rufus King Park. We are pleased to offer opportunities for vendors on both Saturday and Sunday.
JCAL Riddim & Jazz is headlined by two-time Grammy-winning jazz artist Samara Joy and is expected to draw a large audience, which will drive traffic to your tables.
Vendors pay $250 for a one-day table or $350 for the full weekend. Please note that tents will not be provided, but vendors are welcome to bring their own. JCAL's tables are 8 feet, and tents must be no larger than 10 feet.
Below is an application form. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate food vendors in the park at this time.
In the event of extreme weather, vendors will be granted a full refund.
Please provide a detailed description of your brand and products below. If it is a good fit, we will be in touch to set you up as an official vendor.
Selected vendors will be asked to fill out a W9. Payment will be collected through ACH or credit card.
Trickled Down Decadence: Screams for Hope
Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) is seeking visual artists to showcase original artwork for “Trickled Down Decadence: Screams for Hope,” an art exhibition conceived and curated by Wanda Best. The theme of this group exhibition is preventing youth gun violence. Between 2019 and 2021, the number of children and teens killed by gunfire in the United States increased by 50%, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of the latest annual mortality statistics procured from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
This exhibition serves as an education about the dire need to strengthen gun control laws. It is a cry for help to stop the decadence that is taking over this society with youth killing youth. It is our hope that someone hears the screams of those who lost their lives to gun violence and stand up to be a part of the solution to stop this genocide. The exhibition will be on display in JCAL’s galleries from October 26, 2024 to December 14, 2024 and is part of our Visual Voices curatorial initiative. Artists selected for this exhibition will each receive a $250.00 stipend.
About Visual Voices
Visual Voices, is a cohort of emerging and midcareer curators who will receive, from 2023 to 2025, the fiscal, strategic and institutional support to propose and mount exhibitions in JCAL’s galleries in order to amplify Queens-based BIIPOC (Black, Immigrant, Indigenous, People of Color) artists. Visual Voices curators will identify, cultivate and elevate emerging BIIPOC talent, and produce artist talks, workshops and demonstrations. Visual Voices reflects our leadership’s conviction that a diverse community isn’t defined top-down by a cultural institution, but rather by giving agency and power to a community to define itself.
Eligibility:
· Solo artists only; no collectives or collaborations will be considered;
· Artist must be a current resident of NYC. Special priority given to Queens-based artists.
· Artists under 18 may participate with parental or guardian consent, with the minimum age being 13.
JCAL welcomes artists of all races, colors, religions, languages, gender identities, sexual orientations, national origins, ages, disabilities, and socioeconomic and marital statuses. Those who identify as part of underrepresented communities, and whose work centers on the artist’s personal experiences and observations, are especially welcome and encouraged to apply.
Deadline to submit is 11:59PM EST on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Only one application per artist will be accepted. Work will be reviewed based on quality and the completeness of the accompanying application. You may be contacted with follow-up questions regarding the nature of the work and the manner of intended exhibition. Artists are responsible for transporting and collecting all artwork to and from the institution. JCAL reserves the right to not exhibit artwork that does not meet display criteria or does not align with the institution’s mission.
